What are you afraid of?
I’m afraid of fear. No, seriously. We’ve all heard the old saying, “there’s nothing to fear but fear itself”… but do we realize the dep…th of that truth?
What would you do differently today if you were able to truly and completely eliminate fear from your mind?
We all have a mini-me that we carry around inside of us. He or she is a mini version of ourselves who gives full vent to our every fear. That little guy or gal is the main reason we fail… why we don’t achieve our God-given destinies… why our relationships struggle and fail… why we remain unfulfilled no matter what we do.
We believe the lies this little mini-me tells us are true.
Think of the last time you failed a challenge: great or small. What would you say kept you from success? If you were to look back at your thought life and view it on a TV screen, what would you see your mini-me telling you about yourself?
For many of us, that replay is fearful.
A wise and inspiring man named Nelson Mandela once said, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” In other words, no matter what you face, you are probably always going to hear that little mini-me telling you what you cannot do, or taunting you with all the ways you might fail. You have a choice. Listen to the fear and the lies, freeze and fail to take action, or tell yourself the truth that you will never know until you try.
Pray about it, if it lines up with Scripture, will accomplish good, and not hurt anyone, trust God to empower you and to work through you to accomplish it. And even if it looks like failure, the truth is that you only fail when you fail to learn the lesson in any given situation. Choose instead to move forward in life with courage in the face of your mini-me.
